Same-day visa runs from Da Nang: Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong compared

The best destination is not necessarily the one with the cheapest outbound fare. A same-day visa run needs valid entry permission at both ends, a usable pair of flights, enough time for border and airline procedures, and money to handle a disrupted return.
Part 2 compares Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, plus Hong Kong, a Special Administrative Region of China with separate immigration rules. Research checked on 7 September 2026 supports choosing routes to investigate; it does not confirm availability or a same-day schedule for a specific departure date.
1. Compare the route and the total airfare
These are EasyVisa editorial planning allowances for one adult’s return economy flights, aiming to include ticket taxes/fees and the fare’s cabin allowance. They are not guaranteed airline prices and exclude visas, assistance, checked bags, meals, accommodation and contingency. Late booking, holidays and convenient flight pairs can cost more. Flight durations are approximate per direction; ticket times are local.
| Destination | Airlines/routes to check | Estimated return airfare | Advantages | Drawbacks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bangkok, Thailand | Thai AirAsia to DMK; check Thai Vietjet to BKK separately • about 1h40–2h | VND 3,500,000–6,500,000 | Short flight; useful starting point for matching departures | DMK and BKK are different airports; avoid tight airport changes. |
| Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia | AirAsia to KUL • about 2h50–3h | VND 4,500,000–8,000,000 | Worth comparing low fares and planned stays | Late arrival may rule out a same-day return; verify terminals. |
| Singapore | Scoot / Singapore Airlines to SIN • about 3h | VND 5,000,000–9,000,000 | Choice of budget and full-service products | Higher contingency costs; return may depart too early. |
| Hong Kong, China | HK Express to HKG • about 2h | VND 4,500,000–9,000,000 | Short flight; promotional fares worth checking | Passport-specific visa/permit rules; advertised base fares may exclude tax. |

2. Bangkok: shorter flying, but choose the correct airport
Thai AirAsia sells Da Nang–Don Mueang (DMK). For Thai Vietjet, search Suvarnabhumi (BKK) on the airline’s system and verify the operating carrier and nonstop service on your date. Two tickets labelled Bangkok can involve different airports; the road transfer can erase the time advantage.
The shorter flight and shared time zone with Vietnam make the day easier to map than Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. Immigration queues and check-in deadlines still consume time. A low fare is useful only if there is a suitable return.
Check Thai visa/exemption eligibility for your actual passport through Thai e-Visa. Travellers required to submit TDAC should use Immigration’s portal in the three-day pre-arrival window. TDAC is not a visa. For a trip without an overnight stay, declare the real itinerary and ask for guidance if an accommodation field is unclear; do not invent a hotel booking.
Editorial assessment: investigate Bangkok first if reducing flight time matters, then require both flights to use the same airport and leave a substantial processing interval.

3. Kuala Lumpur: compare total cost, especially for an overnight trip
AirAsia offers nonstop DAD–KUL. Its route page checked on 7 September displayed some September departures at 17:40 arriving at 21:30 Malaysian time, illustrating why a cheap ticket does not establish a same-day return. Malaysia is one hour ahead of Vietnam.
The advantage is the opportunity to compare low-cost airfare and accommodation when planning to wait abroad. The drawbacks are almost three hours’ flying each way plus terminal walking and formalities. Verify terminals on both tickets, especially when mixing carriers.
Check Malaysian Immigration’s passport-specific visa rules. Travellers subject to MDAC should submit it within the system’s three-day window unless exempt. MDAC does not grant visa exemption, and being resident in Vietnam does not establish Malaysian entry rights.
Editorial assessment: a useful overnight or multi-day comparison. To investigate a same-day trip, start by finding an early departure and a sufficiently late return, not by selecting the cheapest-fare box.

4. Singapore: service choices with a larger contingency budget
Scoot and Singapore Airlines publish nonstop Da Nang–Singapore routes. Other search results may involve connections: inspect the operating airline, stops, duration and fare conditions. Singapore is one hour ahead of Da Nang.
The advantage is comparing Scoot’s budget product against what a Singapore Airlines fare includes. The drawback is about six hours in the air for the round trip before airport formalities. Missing the return can add substantial hotel and replacement-ticket costs.
ICA requires foreign visitors’ passports to have at least six months’ validity, a visa when required, sufficient funds and evidence of onward travel. Submit the free SG Arrival Card within three days including arrival day when clearing immigration. It is not a visa. The exemption for travellers remaining in transit does not automatically fit a self-transfer requiring baggage collection and a landside check-in.
Editorial assessment: suitable for travellers valuing service choices and carrying a contingency fund. Establish that a SIN–DAD flight remains after you can finish arrival procedures; daily flights alone do not prove this.

5. Hong Kong: check entry permission before chasing the fare
HK Express operates Hong Kong–Da Nang and sells departures from Da Nang. Promotional amounts may be base fares excluding taxes, surcharges or extras; do not double a headline price and call it a complete return fare.
The short flight is an advantage if a workable pair exists. The principal drawback is that Hong Kong’s visa and entry-permit requirements differ from mainland China and ASEAN countries. Vietnamese passport holders should check the Immigration Department’s visa/entry-permit table and any specific exceptions; a short visit does not itself create exemption.
Hong Kong is one hour ahead of Vietnam. Read Visit/Transit requirements for your passport and confirm self-transfer procedures. Transit permission is not proof you can pass immigration to check in again.
Editorial assessment: shortlist only after clarifying entry rights. If a new permit is needed, its lead time and cost may outweigh a cheaper airfare.

6. Test whether a flight pair really works in one day
Write down all four moments with date and time zone: DAD departure, overseas arrival, return departure and DAD arrival. Same day means landing in Da Nang before midnight on the original day in Vietnam time, not merely boarding the return before midnight.
From the interval at the overseas airport, subtract disembarkation, immigration, baggage if any, terminal movement, check-in, departure control and security. You must beat the counter deadline, not merely the departure time. For self-transfers we use 5–6 hours abroad as a cautious starting point when searching; this is editorial planning advice, not an airline-guaranteed minimum connection.
A wholly hypothetical Bangkok example: arrival at 10:00 and return departure at 17:00 gives seven hours. A departure at 11:30 gives only 90 minutes and is unsuitable for clearing entry and checking in again. No flight number is implied; find real flights with seats for your date.
An aircraft’s immediate turnaround can be too short for passengers to enter the country and return to departures. Being able to buy both tickets proves little. Choose a stay abroad if you lack Vietnam re-entry permission or adequate time.
7. Choose by priority and keep an alternative
- Shortest flying: check Bangkok using the same airport first; consider Hong Kong after confirming the entry permit requirements.
- Lowest overall cost: compare return fares, visas, baggage and accommodation for Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. A stay while waiting for an e-visa is an essential budget item.
- Service preference: compare Scoot and Singapore Airlines on baggage, changes and the actual fare conditions.
- Every route: keep a backup return option, change/cancellation rules, accommodation options and money for a new ticket. Separate tickets may leave you paying for a missed return.
- If you need a new personal e-visa application after departure, remove same-day return from the plan and allow several days abroad.
Frequently asked questions
Which destination guarantees a same-day return?
None. It depends on the date, passport, documents, available flight pair and processing interval. This comparison identifies routes to investigate.
Can I stay airside and board straight back?
Do not assume so. Separate tickets, baggage, airline policies and destination rules may require entry and a fresh check-in. This guide plans for entry to the destination; an airside alternative needs separate confirmation from the carrier and relevant authorities.
Do the fare estimates include EasyVisa assistance?
No. They budget for return airfare only; visas, assistance, extra baggage, transfers, food, accommodation and contingency are separate.
